The Parable Of The Unexpected Guest: Luke 11:5-8

Luke 11:1-10
English Standard Version (ESV)

And he said to them, Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves, for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him; and he will answer from within, Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything?

I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs. And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

The Parable Of The Unexpected Guest: Summary

In the Parable Of The Unexpected Guest, Jesus used the illustration of how a man treats his neighbor at an inconvenient time to help us remember that God is much more than just a decent neighbor, He is our Father, He loves us, and He longs for us to come to him – in need and in plenty.

Our God is attentive to our prayer – Let us remember to approach his throne confidently, expressing our love, thanksgiving, praise and prayerful requests to him. Let us remember that God is more than just a good neighbor, He is our Father and he cares very deeply about us.

The Parable Of The Unexpected Guest: Prayer

Dear Lord, We thank you because you are our ever loving and ever caring Father. We thank you because we can always come to you, no matter what we are going through, no matter where we are coming from, no matter what “time” in our lives it is. We thank you because you are never inconvenienced by our prayers. We thank you, Lord, because you remind us, again and again, how much you love us and how much you care about us. Even when we don’t understand some things, we thank you because you always see the big picture, and we know that you always have our best interests at heart.

Please help us to always trust you completely and totally. Lord, please fill us continually with your Holy Spirit. Help us to come to you freely, continually seek you, develop our relationship with you, and get closer to you every day – whether we “need” something or not. We know you long to have and grow a solid relationship with us, please help us to never get carried away, but to keep our eyes on you.

We thank you because you are a kind and merciful God. We pray that we will always extend kindness and mercy to others as well – even when it seems “inconvenient” to do so. We pray that our relationships with others will always reflect the relationship we have with you. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.

Thanks for reading, Dear Friends – Have a wonderfully blessed, stress-free, productive, and joyful day!
