What does God want us to wear? What does God want me to wear?

First things first. Before we can wear what God wants us to wear, we need to take some things off, by God’s grace and with God’s help:

1. Take off falsehood, lying and deceit
Ephesians 4:25, NIV Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

2. Take off anger and bitterness; malice and gossip
Ephesians 4:31, ESV Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. More On: Letting go of Anger & Hurt

3. Take off everything that slows you down or trips you up in your walk with God, so you can RUN FREE!
Hebrews 12:1, NLT …let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

We are no longer slaves to sin – Jesus’ sacrifice has set us free!
Romans 6:6, NLT We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
John 8:36, ESV So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Now that we’ve taken off all the stuff we don’t need, we’re ready to get dressed. So… What does God want us to wear? What does the Bible say we should put on? We are representatives of Jesus and God’s beloved children; so every day, we need to make a conscious effort to get dressed appropriately, with God’s help. Here are 5 things we should put on every day, by God’s grace:

1. Put on the garment of praise
Isaiah 61:3, KJV …to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Bible Verses about Praising God ; He gives beauty for ashes

2. Put on Mercy, Kindness, Humility, Gentleness, & Patience
Colossians 3:12-13, NLT Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. See also: Be Kind to One Another

3. Put on love
Colossians 3:14, NLT Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. See also: Love is not optional

4. Put on the armor of God to stand firm against the devil

5. Finally, always put on the Lord Jesus Christ
Romans 13:14, ESV …put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh,
