Think Before You Speak: 7 Reasons Why You Should Think Before You Speak.

Think Before You Speak: 7 Reasons Why You Should Think Before You Speak.

#1. You May Have Misunderstood The Situation.
Proverbs 18:2, NLT
Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.
Proverbs 29:20, NLT There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking. See also: Bible Verses about Jumping To Conclusions.

#2. Your Words Are More Powerful Than You Think.
Proverbs 18:21, NLT The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. See also: Speak Words Of Life, Not Death.

#3. Your Words Can Have A Lasting Impact On People’s Lives. Your Words Can Either HELP or HURT.
Words, even when flung around carelessly and thoughtlessly, have a profound and lasting impact on young ears and hearts. Even mature people are greatly affected by the words we speak. Your words can have a powerful impact on people’s actions for years to come. Your words can either build lives up or tear lives down. Please, think before you speak!
Proverbs 12:18, GNT Thoughtless words can wound as deeply as any sword, but wisely spoken words can heal.

#4. Your Words Are A Reflection Of Who You Are.
Proverbs 17:27-28, NLT
A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered. Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.

#5. Your Words Can Ensnare You.
Think before you speak – whether you are in private or in public, whether you are speaking to a small group or to a large group, whether you are speaking in person or over the phone. Words thoughtlessly spoken can trap you!
Proverbs 6:2-3, BSB if you have been trapped by the words of your lips, ensnared by the words of your mouth, then do this, my son, to free yourself, for you have fallen into your neighbor’s hands: Go, humble yourself, and press your plea with your neighbor.

#6. If You Don’t Think Before You Speak, You May End Up Saying What You Don’t Mean.
James 1:19-20, NIV My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

#7. Words Spoken Can Never Be Unspoken. You Can’t Take Your Words Back Once You Say Them. Think Before You Speak!
Proverbs 11:9, NLT With their words, the godless destroy their friends, but knowledge will rescue the righteous.
Ephesians 4:29, NLT Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
Psalm 141:3, NLT Take control of what I say, O LORD, and guard my lips.
