Dear Friends, I woke up this morning from a very vivid dream. In the dream, I had embarked on a task, and it involved someone else – let’s call her Danielle. Then I got distracted, thinking I would come back to the task very shortly. I got distracted because I met a lady I had looked up to from afar for such a long time, but prior to that day I had never talked to her in person. The lady is a few years older than me, has such a sweet spirit from what I can tell, and she is doing wonderful things for God. Let’s call this lady Holly. I was so excited to see Holly, and felt like I could not pass up this opportunity to chat with her. So I left the task at hand, thinking I would come back to it shortly.
I chatted with Holly excitedly while we both took a walk through a beautiful wooded area. Hours went by and we kept on talking about random things concerning her ministry. Before I knew it, it had become dark. Problem was, I no longer knew how to get back to Danielle to finish the work we had started together. I had even left my purse and wallet with Danielle in my hurry to talk to Holly. I was lost! I didn’t know how to find my way back on my own. Besides, it had become really dark so I wasn’t even sure if Danielle was still where I left her, or if she was still awake. Holly and another lady started trying to help me find my way back, and that’s when I woke up.
Today, I am reminded that we can be distracted by seemingly good things, not just things that are obviously bad. O God, please help us to not be distracted from the things that you have prepared for us! Help us to wisely recognize Satan’s distractions when they come, no matter how nicely these distractions are packaged! Help us to overcome distractions in our lives, always remembering to stay in our lane and shine for God! Help us to accomplish God’s best for us, according to your perfect will… instead of being distracted by the seemingly good things that you did not ask us to do! O Lord, help us to listen for God’s voice in everything we do! Thank you Lord for continually helping us, teaching us, and re-teaching us. May we continue learning and growing in our walk with you! May your name be glorified in our lives – now and always, Amen.
Dear Friends,
Three major things we need to watch out against being distracted from are:
1. Bad things that will take us away from God’s path for us, i.e. temptations that will derail us. This also includes seemingly innocuous things like anger, bitterness and resentment!
2. Good things that will take us away from God’s best for us, from what we know deep down that God has called us to do.
3. Worry, fear and discouragement.
Please remember that the enemy is always looking for ways to trip us up. Always!
1 Peter 5:8, NIV Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
1 Corinthians 16:13, NIV Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.
Dear Friends, the enemy is always trying to drag us away from God’s will for us. If he doesn’t succeed by making us sin against God by falling into temptation, he will try his best to distract us by keeping us busy doing seemingly good things. If that doesn’t work, he will try to bring us down with worry and anxiety, fear, and discouragement.
Dear Friends, please stay focused and don’t be distracted – remember to do the right things at the right time! The night is coming, when no one can work! And please, don’t burn out by attempting to do the right things at the wrong time! Please stay focused on the task that God has assigned to you – Stay focused on what God has called you to do! May God help us all!
Ephesians 6:10-18, ESV Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
