The Cost of Being a Christian – Counting the Cost of Being a Christian
Dear Friends, Being a Christian is very easy. We commit our lives to the one who loves us more than anyone ever can or will. We commit our lives to the one who gave His life for us. We commit our lives to the one who wants what’s best for us. We commit our lives to the one to whom all power belongs. God doesn’t care about your past. God’s unconditional love is unrivaled and unmatched. God knows all and sees all, and God is a good father to us! God is able and willing to help us in everything we do. God is for us, so Being a Christian is easy – We have thankful hearts as we grow to know God better every day, by His grace!
Jeremiah 31:3, NIV The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
Psalm 103:11, ESV For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
Jeremiah 29:11, NIV For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Dear Friends, Being a Christian is also very hard. Jesus wants ALL of us. Jesus wants our WHOLE hearts to be committed to him. Jesus commands us to LOVE our enemies. Jesus requires to FORGIVE again, and again, and again. Jesus requires us to consistently be people of HONESTY and INTEGRITY, even when this comes at great cost. Jesus requires us to be UNSELFISH: “carrying our cross”; following Christ wholeheartedly.
Being a Christian is hard because following Jesus requires a complete death to our old lives and our old ways of thinking. We are being continually transformed into the image of Christ. Sometimes, this process can be painful, much like the process of a gardener pruning plants and tending a garden. Things will be cut, treatments will be applied, there will be some growing pains! Yes, Being a Christian is both easy and hard!
Matthew 16:24, NLT Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.
Luke 14:27, NLT And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.
John 15:1-2, NIV “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
Being a Christian comes with its costs! But this process is also beautiful, the benefits are priceless! When we allow the Master Gardener to tend us, When we allow the Master Potter to mold us, when we allow the Holy Spirit to renew our thoughts and attitudes and change us from the inside out, powerful and beautiful things happen in our lives, to the glory of God!
Instead of being choked to death or becoming overrun with pests and parasites and weeds, we grow into the image of Christ! We are blessed, and we are a blessing to others. We beautify the world around us and produce good fruit to the glory of God! We are agents of God’s love, and we spread the fragrance of His love everywhere we go! When we allow God to do his complete work in us, We have PEACE, and our JOY is full. We have the assurance of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
