I Am Not Called To Argue Politics. I Am Called To Love Others Generously.

I was telling my husband yesterday (after seeing a political post on Facebook), that politics is one of the reasons why I am not active on social media. There are many other reasons, but this is one of them:). Even when words are not exchanged, feelings are often hurt, impressions of people potentially changed, conclusions are often reached (right or wrong), questions and doubts about people start to arise. I just don’t want to go there in my heart.
I also avoid getting into arguments about politics with people – online or in real life. There are so many other things we can talk about besides politics. There are so many other ways to get to know each other. Politics often just muddies the waters. I don’t want to go there.
I want to focus on whatever I believe God has called me to do, by His grace. Politics is currently not on that list. I will by God’s grace do my part: get informed, pray, *VOTE*, keep praying, keep trusting God for the best, and keep trusting God with everything. But I don’t want to argue politics or get into long political arguments with people. I am not called to do that. Related: Why we should not argue; Silence is not weakness.
John 13:34-35, ESV A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
1 John 4:20, NIV Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. (Love is not optional – We must love one another!)
May we always get our priorities straight. May we always remember that loving others generously is what we are called to do in life. If we harbor hate in our heart, we are not doing what we are called to do or being who we are called to be. We are just lying to ourselves. If we focus on arguing politics, religion or theology, we risk missing what we are truly called to do -to love others generously however God grants us the opportunity.
Colossians 4:6, NIV Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
