Thought Provoking Gossip Kills Quote ~ Gossip Kills Three
“Gossip kills three people: the one who speaks it, the one who listens, and the one about whom it is spoken.” ~ Unknown
I was reading our collection of Bible Verses about Gossip recently, when I came upon this Quote from the Bible:
Leviticus 19:16, NLT Do not spread slanderous gossip among your people. Do not stand idly by when your neighbor’s life is threatened. I am the LORD.

This Scripture Quote hit me like a ton of bricks. Yes, I know God hates gossip, and I know gossip is harmful. But what this scripture shouted out loud to me today is that when we gossip about others, it’s like we are attempting to kill them. When we gossip, we are in effect killing a person’s character, and possibly even more! When we listen to gossip and don’t do anything to stop it, it’s as though we are standing by idly while someone else is doing the killing (i.e. attempted killing). When we participate in gossip, we are killing relationships. So, what came to mind after reading this scripture is simply that Gossip kills!
After this sunk in, I went looking for other quotes that specifically remind us that Gossip kills. I found several helpful quotes from the Bible, and I would like to share them with you today.
I pray today’s post serves as a helpful and important reminder to us all, to not practice attempted murder with our careless words, but instead, to SPEAK LIFE!
May we Speak Words of Life, Not Death! May we speak Blessings & Life unto others! May we regularly speak words of encouragement to others, and regularly speak encouraging words about others. Amen! See also: Bible Verses about Encouraging One Another; Think before you speak.
Luke 6:27-28, NLT But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.
1 Peter 3:9, NIV Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
May we remember to pray for others who have hurt us one way or another, instead of gossiping about them. May we also remember to pray for those whom we have hurt with our words – whether to their face or behind their backs. May God grant us wisdom and obedient hearts to lift each other up, and not tear each other down.
May we always remember, GOSSIP KILLS!
