Be Perfect as Your Heavenly Father is Perfect.

Be Perfect as Your Heavenly Father is Perfect.

Key Verse:
Matthew 5:48, NIV Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

My boys and I just got back home – I picked them up from school a little while ago. As usual, soon after the ride home began, we started talking about how their day at school had gone. We all laughed as I heard about the funny things that had happened at school today, from both my 11 year old and my 9 year old. We were thankful – It had been a great day.

Then my 9 year old got really serious. “Mom, I really want to do much better in Science! I really want to be a Scientist when I grow up, so I want to do better.”

Thankfully, I know he usually does well in all his classes, so I was honestly not too concerned about any of his grades being low. Still, I wanted to be sure I wasn’t missing anything important, so I quickly asked: “What grade did you get on your recent Science test?” “An A!” he responded.

I know my son wasn’t trying to brag or trying to make a big deal out of nothing by saying he wanted to do better at Science even though he just got an A. The truth is, he wants to consistently get an A+ in Science. He is not satisfied with an A. He wants to be “perfect” in science because he is so very passionate about it.

I encouraged him to keep trying his best in everything he does, and to keep trusting God to help him at school. I also reminded him to continue to be thankful for all of his accomplishments so far. May God continually bless our efforts with success, Amen.

What happened with my boys as we drove back home reminded me of a conversation I had with a friend just this morning. I was telling her that I want to be “perfect” in every area – I want to keep growing and growing and growing! Yes, I want to make God happy, I want to make God proud! I want to experience spiritual growth every day and in every way. I want to continually appreciate God for how far He has brought me, but I never want to feel like I have “arrived”, God forbid this! By God’s grace, I want to keep growing in every area, and I want to keep trusting God to help me as I walk on this journey to becoming who God created me to be. (Amen)

Dear Friends, we all need to keep on learning and growing every day. God deals with us individually, and we all have ways we can continue to improve in as we grow in our daily walk with God. Perhaps one person might need a whole lot of growth in one specific area, and maybe not as much growth is needed by this same person in another area, comparatively. One thing is for sure however: we all need to keep on growing daily!

James 1:4, ESV And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Dear Friends, I pray that we will continually rely on God to teach us, mold us, and help us grow in every area (whether these areas are actually visible to others or not), so that we may eventually be “perfect, mature and complete”. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Here are some more Encouraging Bible Verses we can all reflect on. I pray these are a blessing and an encouragement to you and yours.

Philippians 3:13-14, NLT No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

Matthew 5:48, NIV Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
So help us God.
