Are Your Riches Holding You Back? Do You Trust God Completely Regardless of What You Have or Don’t Have?

Are Your Riches Holding You Back? Do You Trust God Completely Regardless of What You Have or Don’t Have?

Good Morning Friends!

I recently embarked on a project that required making some tough decisions in order to move forward. There was a certain aspect of the project that was no longer serving me or my goals, and instead was actually more of a distraction to me. But I had trouble letting go of it completely.

It later occurred to me that the ONLY reason why I kept revisiting this issue was because I felt like I had “riches” in it – not monetary riches, but other kinds of investments and perceived value that had been SO important to me in the past. But I am a different person now. My priorities have changed. I no longer consider those things important.

Although I am not striving for those things at this point in my life, I still had trouble letting go, because I had considered them SO valuable at some point in time, and also because of the investments I had made into these things in the past. I had trouble moving on because of my perceived “riches” in this item, even though it was no longer serving me!

This brought to mind the scripture in Matthew 19:23, in which Jesus says how difficult it will be for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God. Please find that scripture as well as the surrounding scriptures below:

Matthew 19:23-26, NIV Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (emphasis mine)

Dear Friends – Money, wealth, investments and riches are good, not bad! But sometimes our riches, investments, or any other thing of perceived great value can actually make it difficult for us to move forward in God’s best for us… not because those things are inherently bad, but because of our ATTACHMENT to them!

Oh yes – money, riches and many other things of value are AWESOME when they SERVE US, but these same things can actually hold us back when we become so attached to them or to the idea of them, that we allow them to RULE US. See also: Money Is Good; Bible Verses about Materialism.

At the end of the day, it all boils down to our hearts, and whether or not we trust God completely regardless of what we have or don’t have.

Dear Friends, do you trust God completely regardless of what you have or don’t have?

Do you trust God completely regardless of what you have or don't have?

***
Is our trust in GOD, the SOURCE of everything GOOD, or is our trust in our perceived riches, wealth and stuff?

Are we fully and continually surrendering to God in every area of our lives, knowing that it’s Not by Might nor by Power, but by the Spirit of God?

Do we truly believe and act like our earthly treasures are temporary? OR do we find ourselves behaving like the rich person who wanted their riches to be buried with them after they died, not wanting to accept the fact that those riches could no longer serve them at that point?

Prayer
Dear Lord, please open our eyes and help us see whatever you want us to see every day!
Please open our ears so we may hear what you are saying to us every day!
Please help us to live our lives with open eyes, open minds, and open hearts – May we never allow anything to hold us back from moving forward in you!

May we continually be receptive to your voice and to your leading.
May you always be the one we put our trust and hope in!
May we never be too attached to anything in this world, thereby allowing things to hold us back from becoming who God created us to be!

May we always put our trust in God – not in man, not in ourselves, and certainly not in stuff!

Thank you Jesus because you are always willing, able and available to help us.
Thank you Jesus because with God all things are possible.
May our lives and everything that concerns us continually glorify your name.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Are your riches holding you back?
