There are few blessings greater than having a father who loves deeply, leads with gentleness, and lives with quiet strength. My dad embodied all these qualities and more. Today, I share the words I read at his funeral – a letter from my heart to my beloved father. May these words honor his beautiful life and inspire us all to love more deeply, live with integrity, and walk joyfully with God.

💛 Tribute To My Gentle And Joyful Father

Dear Daddy, I am so grateful that I had the immense privilege of being your daughter. What an honor it has been to have you as my father!

For as long as I can remember, you have always been a strong, steady and reliable presence in our lives. I remember when I would come and knock on your bedroom door in the middle of the night as a 4-year-old, because I had to go potty and I needed either you or Mom to take me to the bathroom. Sometimes you would take me, and sometimes Mom would take me. I remember when I had measles as a very young child. You gave me a bath and applied the white medicine you brought home from the hospital. You would check on me through the night when I ran a fever. You were a hands-on Dad, caring for me and my sisters and providing everything we needed so we never, ever lacked a thing.

I remember my first day of school, and all the excitement that led up to that. You matched my excitement with your own excitement as you helped me get ready. I was so excited to wear a school uniform, and you told me of all the great things I had to look forward to at school. You indulged me and my sisters when we played with your hair and put knots in your hair. You had to spend more time combing out all the knots in the morning as you got ready for work, but you never complained.

As I grew older, I came to appreciate you even more. Your infectious sense of humor, your commitment and loyalty to my mom and our family, your deep sense of integrity, your generosity to us and to others, your selflessness in helping people as a doctor and a minister, your deep gratitude and contentment in life, your positive outlook on life, your love for God and others, your kindness to others, your work ethic and diligence in life, and all of the sacrifices you continually made to make sure our family never lacked anything. Wow, Daddy, I can honestly say I could not have hoped, prayed or wished for a better father. You are an incredible gift!

Daddy, You were absolutely one of the wisest, most considerate, joyful and honorable people I know. Your integrity is beyond reproach. You had deep respect for others, respect for diverse beliefs, and deep respect for different ways of life. You loved Mom deeply, loved us deeply and loved others deeply. You were not too proud to say sorry, and you were very expressive in your love and generosity to us. You have been such a great example and role model to us all. Right up until the very end, you lived and emulated a life of love, humility and gratitude in Christ Jesus.

Daddy, I deeply appreciate who you are to me, to my husband, to my children, to our mother, and to all my sisters. I am so encouraged because I know you are at peace and rest with God. Please say hello to everyone over there, Daddy! We will surely meet again at the feet of Jesus.

I love you very much, Dear Daddy. Thank you for being such an amazing father to me.
