3 Things We need to Follow God’s Direction

3 Things We need to Follow God’s Direction

Key Verse:
Hebrews 11:6, NIV And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Earlier today, my husband and I were talking about how much we as Christians often want to seek and to follow God’s direction, and how challenging this can sometimes be. We recalled several examples in the Bible, noting that the journey between receiving a promise from God to that promise being fulfilled was not necessarily always smooth: the road was often met with challenges, discouragement, doubt, and yes, testimonies.

We remembered people of faith like Moses, Abraham, Joseph, David… how challenging it must have been for them sometimes when the journey to the fulfillment of God’s word seemed to be so discouraging. We agreed that their strong personal and intimate relationships with God would certainly have encouraged them along the way… it would have helped them to keep on holding on, keep on trusting God, to keep on fixing your eyes on God. We also agreed that at the end of the day, without a heart that truly seeks to obey God no matter what, one cannot truly stay the course. Sometimes God’s directions don’t seem to make any logical sense. Sometimes God’s directions seem counter intuitive. Sometimes God’s directions seem difficult to accomplish – but please remember, when God calls, he also equips! God’s grace is always enough for us – our part is to trust God completely.

So, here is what we concluded. The 3 things we believe we need to follow God’s direction are:
1. Intimacy with God – When we have an intimate relationship with God, we recognize His voice when He is speaking to us. And how do we develop intimacy with God? By spending time with God. See also: Spending Time in The Secret Place

2. Faith in God – Like the Bible says in Hebrews 11:6, it is impossible to please God without having faith in God. Faith in God will help us stand firm, being assured that God’s word stands firm. Faith in God helps us stay the course, knowing that God’s plans for us are good, not evil (Jer 29:11), and that God will always work everything out for good. (Rom 8:28)

3. Hearts that long to please God – In our deepest heart of hearts, may our desire always be to seek to obey God no matter what, and to seek God’s favor above man’s. So even when we don’t understand, even when we are unsure of what the future holds, even when God’s direction doesn’t seem to make much sense, even if we think we have a better idea… our hearts will always bring us back to the right place – right at the center of His will! (Amen)

So, as we seek to follow God, we hope for an “easy” ride, but ultimately, we ask that God’s perfect will be done in all of our lives. We pray that we will always remember to rely on God’s unconditional love for us. And when the going gets tough, may we never forget who we are and whose we are. We pray that our #1 desire will always be to please God… no matter what, by His grace! May nothing else in this world ever come close to our passion for God.

Trusting that God will continually help us as we seek to follow Him every day of our lives, Amen. See also: 3 Ways to Walk in God’s Perfect Will ; Trusting God one day at a time
