Whose Approval Do You Seek?
Food For Thought => Whose approval do we seek? Do we seek God’s approval in all we do? Whom do we want to impress the most? God? People? What drives us? What do we constantly “seek”?
May we intentionally seek God, his will and his pleasure above all others, and May God continually minister his truths to us – Amen.
Bible Verses about Seeking God’s Approval
1 Thessalonians 2:4, NLT Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.
Galatians 1:10, ESV For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
John 5:41-44, MSG I’m not interested in crowd approval. And do you know why? Because I know you and your crowds. I know that love, especially God’s love, is not on your working agenda. I came with the authority of my Father, and you either dismiss me or avoid me. If another came, acting self-important, you would welcome him with open arms. How do you expect to get anywhere with God when you spend all your time jockeying for position with each other, ranking your rivals and ignoring God?
Matthew 6:33, KJV But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 5:6, NKJV Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
Do It Unto God, Not Unto Men…
Acts 5:29, NIV We must obey God rather than men!
Colossians 3:23-24, ESV Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
But we should certainly not ignore others too…
2 Corinthians 8:21, AMP For we take thought beforehand and aim to be honest and absolutely above suspicion, not only in the sight of the Lord but also in the sight of men.
God’s Patience with Sin Should Not Be Confused with Approval
“You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?
But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.” (NIV)
Bible Verses About Pleasing God
“So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit.” (KJV)
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (KJV)
“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” (NIV)
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship.” (NIV)
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” (NIV)
“If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment.” (NIV)
“For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.” (KJV)
“O Israel, you should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
Hear, O Israel!
The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!
You shall love the LORD your God
with all your heart and
with all your soul and
with all your might.
These words, which I am commanding you
today, shall be on your heart.” (NASB)
“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” (NKJV)
