Speak Up When You See Injustice: Bible Verses & Scripture Quotes about Speaking Up Against Injustice.

Dear Friends, we must speak up against injustice. Please remember that in whatever we say or do, we must apply wisdom. Dear Friends, wisdom comes from God. We must remember to seek God first in all things, and allow God to lead us. When we make a habit of seeking God first in all we do, He will guide us regarding what to say and what not to say; what to do, and what not to do.

The scriptures below remind us to have an attitude of love, care and concern for others who suffer injustice, mistreatment and oppression. We should not just ignore injustice and move on with our own happy lives just because we think we are not directly affected. They also remind us that you can speak up when you are mistreated (scroll further down for scripture references).

Speak up when you see injustice against others.
Proverbs 31:8, NLT Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. More On: Helping Others; Standing Up For Others.

Bear in mind, we must still show respect for authority in all we say and do. (See Romans 13:1-5)

Exodus 23:2, NIV Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd, Related: Bible Verses about Injustice

Hebrews 13:3, ESV Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.

Isaiah 58:6-7, NLT No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. More On: Helping the Poor

Speaking up when we are mistreated – Two examples
Example from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
John 18:22-23, NIV When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded. “If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?”

Example from the Apostle Paul
Acts 16:35-37, NIV When it was daylight, the magistrates sent their officers to the jailer with the order: “Release those men.” The jailer told Paul, “The magistrates have ordered that you and Silas be released. Now you can leave. Go in peace.” But Paul said to the officers: “They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out.”
Acts 22:25, NLT When they tied Paul down to lash him, Paul said to the officer standing there, “Is it legal for you to whip a Roman citizen who hasn’t even been tried?”

Sometimes, God will allow people to suffer injustice for the sake of Christ.
Romans 8:17, NLT And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
Acts 5:41, NLT The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus. Related: Bible Verses about Suffering for the Gospel

God will strengthen us all as we seek to obey Him in all we do!
Philippians 4:13, ESV I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
