God wants you to do well! God wants it to go well with you!

God wants you to do well! God wants it to go well with you!

Good Evening Friends – I pray all is well with you and yours! I am back to update you on some of my thoughts as I journey through the Bible, as narrated by George Sarris on Bible Gateway. 🙂

Deuteronomy begins with a recap of several things that had happened to the people of Israel after their great exodus from Egypt. The people were reminded of how God had saved them again and again, how they had heard the voice of God, how God had led them, guided them, and helped them through so much. They were reminded of how God had become angry when the people of Israel refused to go ahead and possess the land that God had promised to deliver to them. They had rebelled against God, choosing instead to listen to the people who had brought back a discouraging report about the land. Their actions caused the fulfillment of God’s promises to be delayed by 40 years.

Through it all, God was with them.

In Deuteronomy 5, they were reminded of how God had spoken to them, showing His glory and majesty, and giving them the ten commandments. They had been overcome with awe, and had been too afraid to go near God when God spoke to them from out of the fire. At this point, they said to Moses:
“Go near and listen to all that the Lord our God says. Then tell us whatever the Lord our God tells you. We will listen and obey.” (Deuteronomy 5:27, NIV)

Now these next two verses gripped me when I heard them:
“The Lord heard you when you spoke to me, and the Lord said to me, “I have heard what this people said to you. Everything they said was good. Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!” (Deuteronomy 5:28-29, NIV)

As I listened to what the Lord had said concerning the children of Israel, I could feel God’s love, God’s ache, and God’s desire for His beloved children to do well!

Dear Friends, Our Loving God wants us to obey Him not just because he deserves our complete reverence and obedience, but also so that it might go well with us!

God wants us to do well! God wants it to go well with us!
Oh yesGod wants you to do well! God wants it to go well with you!

May our hearts be inclined to fear God, to reverence God, and to keep His commandments!
May our hearts be turned to God! May our greatest desire be to please God!
May it go well with us, and with all our children forever and ever! Amen.
