God wants us to work hard and work smart, to the glory of his name. We are encouraged to do whatever we do with all of our hearts:
Colossians 3:23, ISV Whatever you do, work at it wholeheartedly as though you were doing it for the Lord and not merely for people.
However, God also wants us to get our rest!
Psalm 127:2, TLB It is senseless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, fearing you will starve to death; for God wants his loved ones to get their proper rest.
Another version puts it this way:
Psalm 127:2, NLT It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.
Friends, we must watch out for greed:
Luke 12:15, NIV Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
Don’t wear yourself out. Don’t work yourself to the bone. Wealth is fleeting – it’s just not worth killing yourself in a bid to acquire more and more.
Proverbs 23:4-5, NLT Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle.
Friends, take time to ENJOY the fruit of your labor:
Ecclesiastes 3:12–13, NLT So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.
Friends, take care of your body by getting proper rest and not overworking:
1 Corinthians 6:19-20, ESV Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
We must also take time to remember what’s most important at the end of the day:
Matthew 6:19-21, ESV Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. See also: Bible Verses about Priorities
My Prayer for you today as you work hard, work smart, and also play hard:) by God’s grace:
Ephesians 1:17, NIV I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
Psalm 90:17, NIV May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us– yes, establish the work of our hands.
Psalm 128:2, ISV You will eat from the work of your hands; you will be happy, and it will go well for you. (Amen!)
