Bible Acronym Meaning: What Does BIBLE Stand For? What Do Different Bible Acronyms Stand For? What do the acronyms NIV, NLT, ESV and NASB mean?

Dear Friends, This post addresses two general questions:
#1. What Does B.I.B.L.E Stand For? => Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.
#2. What Do Different Bible Acronyms Stand For? What do the acronyms NIV, NLT, ESV and NASB mean?
I received an email from a new reader this morning asking the following question: “What do the acronyms NIV, NLT and NASB mean? I am just learning more about the Bible.”
I wanted to share my response with you all, in case anyone else had the same question.

Good Morning Friend! Thanks for asking!
These acronyms refer to the different translations of the Bible the scriptures are taken from.
So for instance:
NIV means New International Version,
NLT means New Living Translation,
NASB means New American Standard Bible,
ESV means English Standard Version,
KJV means King James Version,
etc.
The Bible was translated many many years ago, and some translations are worded a bit differently from others. But ultimately, the spirit and heart and crux of the message of the Bible is the same across different translations.
The translations used on JollyNotes.com are listed on the Bible Copyright Information page (also on this site).
Biblegateway.com is another fantastic website with lots and lots of translations for all the scriptures in the Bible. They also have the Bible in audio, with different speakers reading the Bible. You can browse the audio bible here if you are interested: https://www.biblegateway.com/audio/
So for instance, I frequently listen to the NIV by George Sarris through Bible Gateway: https://www.biblegateway.com/audio/purevoice/niv/Gen.1

As you read the Bible, wherever you read it from and whatever translation you are reading or listening to, please continue to pray that God will grant you wisdom and understanding. The Bible says that wisdom comes from God (Proverbs 2:6-7), and that the Holy Spirit gives life. (2 Corinthians 3:6).
We must always rely on the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom as we read the Bible, to help us truly understand what God is telling us, and to help us obey God in all we do.
Thanks again for this important question. I hope this response helps:)
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Have a wonderful day and God bless!
Bomi.
