Getting to Know God: How to Start, Develop & Maintain a Personal Relationship with Jesus.

Hello Friend,

Thanks for visiting, It is really nice to have you here.  I hope you continually enjoy reading  Jolly Notes as well as the Inspirational, Comforting and Encouraging Bible Verse Topics. You have probably noticed that I often talk about God in my notes.

Do you know Him?

If you are currently not walking with God, please allow me to invite you to join this wonderful family of God that I belong to. God created us and longs to have a personal relationship with every one of us.  He doesn’t just want you to be a “Christian” by religion – It’s honestly not about religion, it’s about relationship.  God loves you so very much and longs to be your best friend, your father, your mother, your sister, your brother, your confidant, your savior, your provider, your protector, your king, your all. He is patiently waiting…

God’s desire is for us all to live and experience abundant lives in our daily walk with him. He wants us to grow in him and get to know him better every day. He longs for us to find complete joy in him, through his son Jesus Christ and the power of God’s Holy Spirit in us.

Here are some Bible verses to illustrate what I am saying :

Jeremiah 1:4-5 “The word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” (NIV)

Psalm 139:13 -14, 17 -18 “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand.” (NIV)

Isaiah 41:13 “For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” (NIV)

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)

Jeremiah 31:3b “…I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” (NIV)

Isaiah 49:15-16 “Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.” (NLT)

We were all created in God’s image but man fell , and we are all born into sin…sin leads unto death. But God loves us so much, he sent his son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. God longs to reconcile us back to himself. When we come to him, seeking him with sincere hearts and turning away from our past, he forgives us, and we start afresh. We show our love to God by loving others, glorifying Him and by doing what pleases him.

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (NIV)

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (NLT)

John 1:1,14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (KJV)
- The Word here refers to Jesus Christ.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV)

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (KJV)

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (KJV)

1 John 4:9-11 “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” (KJV)

Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” (NASB)

So what must I do to be saved? How do I obtain this free gift of eternal life?
- By Grace, through Faith. Not By Works!

Acts 16:30b,31 “….what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved…” (KJV)

Romans 10: 13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

John 1:12 “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” (NLT)

Ephesians 2: 8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” (NKJV)

Deuteronomy 30:20a “You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life.” (NLT)

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (KJV)

What does it mean to “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ”? - By placing your complete faith and trust in Jesus Christ ,and relying upon Him as your only hope of salvation and eternal life. You are trusting Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior.

To Accept Jesus into your heart and life today, simply pray this or a similar prayer:
“Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that my sin has separated me from you. I want to turn away from my past life today, accepting and trusting Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected, is alive, and hears my prayers. I believe His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness and salvation. I trust in Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I commit my life into your hands. I choose life. Please help me to obey you, and to live a life that will always please you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

CongratulationsWelcome to the Family of God!
This is a decision you will not regret. I pray that the peace of God will continue to dwell in your heart. I pray that you will get closer to God everyday, you will know him more and become more and more like him. I pray your life will always be full of God’s peace, hope, love, joy and purpose. Just keep on trusting him. God is always there for you. Please, don’t ever forget how much God loves you. No matter what you’re going through, he is there.

Follow up your decision with the following:
1. Regularly spend time talking (praying) to God and reading his word, The Bible, each day. Pray for wisdom and understanding as you read, and ask God to show you how to please him and be more like him. Remember Jesus is your new best friend – please keep in touch with him.

2. Tell someone else that you have accepted Jesus into your life.

3. Connect with a local church where you can fellowship with other believers, worship God, and get to know God more.

4. Seek out a small group of fellow Christians you can hang out with regularly. Most churches will have small groups or cell groups or study groups – find one that you can join. It could also be outside the church, eg you may decide to regularly fellowship with a few of your Christian friends. These people will support you, encourage you, and will answer any questions you might have. And you will have a lot of fun in the process:)!

5. It would be wonderful to find an Accountability Partner. Pray for God to show you the right person. Someone you trust and can open up to, who would encourage you as well as lovingly challenge you if you are going the wrong way. Read more about Accountability here.

6. Get Baptized – Any Christian/Follower of Jesus can Baptize you.

7. Rely on God to show you how to live every day. You have now begun a relationship with God and you are an ambassador for Christ. Don’t forget to live accordingly. God will show you how to continually live in a way that will glorify him. The more you get to know God, the more in love with him you will become.

If you accepted Jesus in your life today, please let me know.

If you have any questions at all, please feel very free to  let me know. No question is too silly. Really.
