A little while ago, the boys had been happily playing with their toys when they both decided they wanted to play pretend with Barney and Leapfrog, two of their favorite stuffed animals. The animals were both out of their reach that day, so they asked if I would get them (My 4yr old wanted his Leapfrog, and my 2yr old wanted his Barney). No problem, I told them – Just give me a few minutes while I finish up what I’m doing in the kitchen.
Then the squabbling started. “Mummy won’t give you Barney!” said my 4yr old to my 2yr old. “I’m going to get my Leap frog but you won’t get Barney!” I chuckled when I heard that, thinking “says who?” I wasn’t worried however – my 2yr old is pretty good at standing up for himself so I smiled to myself, already imagining his confident retort – “Mummy’s gonna gimme Barney!”
So you can imagine my surprise when I heard my 2yr old crying, saying “No, I want Barney!” each time his brother taunted him. I call out to him in reassurance – “Don’t worry, just give me a few minutes, I’ll come get you your Barney ok?!” And to his brother – “Stop teasing your little brother!” My little guy is quiet for a minute, until my 4yr old starts teasing him again – “You’re not gonna get Barney! You won’t play with Barney today! Mummy won’t give you Barney!” And then the crying starts again.
I wondered why he would believe his brother over me. Didn’t he know his brother didn’t get to decide whether or not he got Barney? Had he forgotten so quickly that I was the mom? That I got to decide? This was definitely not the first time I had told him to give me a little bit of time before getting him something he wanted. We lived together, he knew me and he knew that when I say I’ll get him Barney, I will get him Barney… so why on earth was he getting so upset by his brother’s taunts? Why couldn’t he just wait patiently for me to finish up in the kitchen? And then I remembered that he was only 2yrs old – He really is still a baby and you can expect such from babies sometimes
.
I couldn’t help but wonder how God must feel when we act this way. When we act like we don’t know who he is. When by our actions we seem to have forgotten our history with him. I remembered this story last night when I started doubting something that I know God placed in my heart. When in a way I started acting like it was up to others, or up to me, momentarily forgetting that it is always up to God! And God’s word will never, ever fail.
So that helped me decide what today’s post was going to be. Please join me in always remembering that God’s word is forever settled…. God is forever faithful. It’s not up to the devil, it’s not up to others, it’s not up to us (although we should of course play our own parts in fulfilling God’s word)…but ultimately, please remember – it’s not up to them, It’s up to God! If God has placed something in your heart, stick with it – don’t worry about what anyone else says or does, or about what circumstances are currently telling you. Stay where God has placed you, do your part, and don’t believe any lies. Don’t get upset and leave your position, please – let God fulfill his word in his own time!
This also reminded me of the song – “Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled, in heaven, it is settled!”
Here’s the verse/thought of the day:
Psalm 119: 89-90 “Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You established the earth, and it abides.”
Another verse to meditate on is Numbers 23:19 – I love this verse in it’s entirety! Gave me goose bumps when I read it this morning – Thank you Anietie for the suggestion! Here’s what it says:
“God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (NIV)
Yet another beautiful set of verses – Psalm 103:2-5,10 – These scriptures got me really bubbly on the inside when I read them this morning.. Thanks Sarah for the suggestion!
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagles…He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.” See More Great Bible Verses
Thank you Dearest Father, because you are always faithful! Thank you for being so patient with us…Even in the times when we should know better, when we sometimes act like babies, you are always there to reassure us, to remind us of your unfailing love, your steadfast word, and your faithfulness.
And like we are reminded by Kehinde – there are sometimes when we seem to forget, or when we don’t understand certain things, simply because we are human. “But when we get to understand, our confidence is boosted and becomes unshakable!” So true!
Is there a verse or song or anything that reminds or reassures you of God’s steadfast word, love, faithfulness? Please feel free to share with us. Thank you very much!
Much Love & Blessings,
Bomi Jolly

Hmmmm, word!!! I grew up with the former part of the verse: “Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.”
Haaaaa!! You got me charged up real good this morning. Bless your soul!!
This reminds me of what happened to Peter when he saw Jesus walking on water, the Master told him to come which he did but the Bible recorded that when he (Peter) saw the wind boisterous, he started to sink. (when he allowed fear set in).
Peter saw the howling wind because he took his eyes off Jesus for a moment!!!
It is easy for us to say Peter should have stayed focused on Jesus but who wouldn’t get distracted by the wind (events around us); the same way I could have said your 2yr old should have left his brother and cling to you till you are ready to give him Barney.
The solution was for your kid to keep hearing those reassuring words from you each time the older one taunts him. The solution for us in trying times is to keep going back to the word of God each time the world throw arrows of doubt at us!!! Hallelujah and Amen.
I’m sure gonna have a lovely day and I pray the same for you too.
Stay on top!
(btw, am I first?) FIRST!!!
Thank you for this wonderful reminder Bomi. Our God is always faithful…
what you have shared is so true…many times we believe what isn’t true…i was there recently… and a friend reminded me of this song by Don Moen – “Lord I offer my life to you, everything I have been through, use it for your glory, things in the past, things yet unseen..wishes and dreams yet to come true…” God knows our past, our present and our future and he’s promised that ‘my thoughts towards you are thoughts of good, not evil, to give you a hope and a future…” So when we worry, we call God a liar, that his word isn’t true… yet, let God be true and everyone else a liar!!! Thanks Bomi, for these real life scenarios that can be applied to everyday living…keep the fire burning babe!!!
Thank you Bomi for this reassuring post. It was exactly what I needed today. I agree with Tokunbo’s post about how we should face God squarely and disregard negative situations or naysayers surrounding us. Every time I feel Him envelope me in his arms or blow me kisses, I walk with a more confident and steadier gait, knowing that the Most High, my Father, is in charge. One of my favorite hymns is “Great is thy Faithfulness.” I could almost burst in tears every time I hear it because its profundity humbles me and brings me into a place of stillness and serenity.
@Hexy – You and me both!! I remember singing that song so many times, clapping my hands and swaying my little head so earnestly from side to side. Lovely song! I’m so so glad to hear that Hexy!! Bless you too:)!! thank you so much for those perfect reminders from the Bible. Yes, yes yes the solution is to keep going back, renewing our minds and believing the word of God each time the world throws arrows of doubt at us! Yes!!! Thank you Hexy! Yay to lovely days for us all:)! And Thank you for being the first, we really should celebrate that somehow lol.. Thank you Hexy:).
@Brenda – He truly is, always always faithful! Thank you very much Brenda!
@Titilola – Thank you for reminding me of that beautiful song – I love it so.. Don Moen is definitely one of my favorite Praise & Worship Leaders. Yes… so true… Thank you Titi, you are perfectly right! I pray we never by our actions call God a liar!! Thank you Titi for taking the time to read and share..appreciate it!
@ Ife – thank you for taking the time to read and share. I completely agree with Tokunbo as well. I love the way you put it – “Walk with a confident gait, knowing that the most high, my father is in charge”!! Love that…And Great is thy faithfulness….one of my favorites too…I love when Cece Winans sings it…Thank you for sharing Ife…!
tears in my eyes as i type! Thank you for this lovely reminder….it is not up to anyone but its up to God! it is settled!
As simple as it seems, believe me it’s not that simple but thanks all the same for reminding me that it could actually be that simple
Honestly Bomi, this is the sincere truth and it happens to us Christians all the time. When we are expecting something from God and it’s not coming early enough, we begin to entertain doubt, worrry will set in, we begin to calculate, permutate fathom how it’s gonna happen. I passed through something like this recently. He gave me assurance he’ll do it. As I was reading your Note It occurred to me he did it and I didn’t remember he said it earlier. Now, a lot of words and prophecies are still hanging and we are waiting for them to be activated. On Sunday during workers prayer meeting at my church, Our pastor shared a story with us where Pastor Adeboye at 2008 New year cross over night around 11:45pm announced that there are some people here that God will still give a brand new Car before the year runs out. 13 people prophetically believed and stepped out in faith, Pastor Adeboye just beckoned for them to come forward and he handed over the keys to brand new cars to them one by one then some other people started rushing out to join them and he forbade them……………….. How many of us will stand till the very end believing God will do what he says he’ll do. Fred Hammond’s Songs Says “God will do what he says he will do he will stand by his word”, remember he’s not a God that will lie. …..Mrs Jolly, thanks for the Jolly Note. I really enjoyed this.
@Toyin – Truly!! It is settled settled settled! Thank you Toyin, very happy to hear this was a good reminder for you!! Praise God we have that confidence – It is settled!
@Seyi – So true, things sometimes seem complicated when they really are quite simple. …Hopefully we will always remember that and see things from a different point of view. Thanks a lot:)!
@SeyiD – Thanks for sharing your testimony and also for sharing that story with us. The story about Pastor Adeboye made me smile – I can imagine people starting to rush forward after realizing what was going on lol. And thank you for reminding us of that lovely Fred Hammond song – that is exactly what we are talking about isn’t it!! I pray we always keep those words in our hearts – “God will do what he says he will do, he will stand by his word!!” Thank you very much Seyi.
Thanks for this reminder… God is powerful enough to say a thing, and bring it to pass!! His words are Yea and amen; so I choose to trust in Him. Yes, Lord.
Hey Bomi great posts. Very uplifting and such a great and positive way to spend free time. Congrats and i love it keep those posts coming.
Mwila.
It is settled………………..thanks for the words Bomi…………..very uplifting and reassuring.
Bomi thanks for using your gift to be a blessing to so many of us and to turn us “Godward” when we seem to be enveloped by the circumstances around us. Jolly notes is a treasure and this one is really a piece. its so reassuring to know that “it’s not up to them” no matter what the “them ” represents in our lives. When we love the Lord and live for Him, everything about us is up to Him.one thing that struck me in this note was the fact that ur 2yr old kept falling for his brother’s tauntings and that was largely bcos he is a baby. he found it easier to believe his brother than to be settled on mummy’s words. In the same way that is also true for us believers. for as long as we remain babes in our walk with the Lord, we would find it easier and more convenient to settle for the everday tauntings around us rather than God’s settled word. God’s word concerning us is settled in every area of our lives. He who did not deny us His own Son, would He not alongside with Him freely give us all things? He will. so lets grow up. Lets become mature in our hearts and in our relationship with our Father so that we can remain “settled” on His SETTLED WORD.
Bless you Bomi and thanks for being such a GIFT to us.
Bomi sorry the anonymous comment just now was from me.
@Tola – I choose to trust in him too – that he will bring to pass what he says he will do!! Thanks so much Tola… I love how we all encourage and uplift each other in love:)!
@Mwila – Thank you=)!! Will keep them coming by God’s grace – please keep reading lol!! Thanks again Mwila…stay warm!
@Ajibola – Settled, settled, settled! I kept singing that song as I drove back home this evening. His word is settled… Thanks a lot Ajibola, I’m really glad to hear you found this uplifting and reassuring.
@Nnenna – You are so right! May we all mature and grow in our relationship with God, and always “remain settled on his settled word” – I looove that! Thank you very much Nnenna!
Yes it is settled and they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles they shall run and not faint, they shall walk and not go weary, amen.
Bomi thank you for the word.God is always faithful to us even when we sometimes doubt him or have little faith.i am the first example – how good and faithful he is to me. i love this encouragement dear.God bless you and the little ones.
(song) God will do what He says He will do, He will stand by His word; It WILL come through….
Whose report do you believe? We shall believe the report of the Lord. ….
And the very common kids’ song….The B.I.B.L.E, that’s the book for me, I stand upon the Word of God, the B.I.B.L.E!!
Thanks for sharing Bomi, God bless!
@Tayo – I heard that verse so many times growing up! I remember reading it during devotions at home and also at my Grandpa’s house. Thanks for that reminder…we will continue to wait on the Lord, and our strength will be renewed! Amen…Thanks so much Tayo!
@Mwila – I know what you mean….He is always always there. Thank God for God right? lol.. God bless you too dear!! Thank you very much!
@Sola F. – Wow, you evoked some wonderfully sweet memories right there…! Absolutely love those songs, …and The B.I.B.L.E, yes that’s the book for me too! Thanks a lot Sola! God bless you too!
b4 we were born he knew us in our mothers womb, and we know predsestination is at work,so my trust is placed on him,
yes, he is faithful, and always on time
thanks for sharing
It is settled indeed… Taking u back to Calvary where our old account was settled long ago. Re-assurance is the strongest tool on the path of perseverance and persistence, (JOB) HE WAS AN EXAMPLE OF A MATURED MIND, DESPITE THE FACT THAT HIS CONDITION COULD NOT BE COMPARED TO THAT OF THE TWO YEAR OLD. The tauntings of this life are tools the devil use to make sure we compromise our faith, but in the long run God’s reassuring word in the bible keep us going. Once i was 2yrs, and i was taunted a lot of times by aunties uncles and relatives. It was’nt easy to remember mum’s reassuring word at all time because the taunting was more than the reassurance from mum. A lot of Christians soon forget that the promises of God supersede the tauntings of the devil and his incarnates and at the end the find their-self often cast down. Take a walk back to Egypt and it will remind you of what it takes to remember those unfailing promises of God that the children of Israel failed to remember after every bit of change. The word of God is our weapon of war, and like a sword in the hands of a samurai, it gives us the confidence that every battle lies at the edge of the sword and without the sword there can’t be a victory. So also is the life of a christian, without the word you are easily defeated. But with the word you are like mount Zion . always have this at the back of your mind that…CONSTANLY ABIDING IN THE WORD, KEEPS JESUS CLOSER THE EVER. I am richly blessed with that post bomi,May the good lord improve your wisdom continually…. AMEN,
Thank you so much for this reminder! I have recieved word from God concerning certain things, but I had began to doubt and give up hope because of circumstances, even when God had proved himself to me over and over again.
There was a time the doctors said I had a disease that could prevent me from having kids, but I heard the Lord clearly ask me, “Whose report would you believe?” I chose right then to believe the report of the Lord- None shall be barren in my house! The disease is gone as if it never existed.
If God could do this for me, how much more finances for the things I need? Thank you for reminding that His word is “Yea” and “Amen”
@ Amarachi – Another wonderful reminder from the Bible…”Before we were born he knew us”..Thanks so much! I have to look that verse up and save it, I agree, he is always on time. Thanks Amarachi!
@Ben – Thanks for reminding us about Job – I agree, he is such a great example of a matured mind! We can learn so much from him. And thanks so much for emphasizing how important the word of God is, love the comparison to a sword in a samurai’s hands. May we always remember God’s word and God’s promises…thanks a lot for sharing Ben.
@Ayodeji – Wow, that is an amazing testimony.. Praising God with you! Thanks so much for taking the time to read and share! We will believe the report of the Lord. Thank you…
I always enjoy reading your notes and they make me envious ( in a good way now) how you learn life lesson from the simple things. Your kids will read this many years from today and be honored because they unconsciously poured life into their mother at such tender ages.
Now with the trusting God issue, we as children of God are good at one thing, whining. we fail to understand that when there is a delay it is sometimes for the best. I read recently in Matt 7:7 ” Do not bargain with God. Be Direct. Ask what you need”. (MSG). Now this is enough to know that when God speaks, His word does not return to Him void ( oh snap, I believe that is in the bible too, lol). Anyways it take discipline to know the voice and the ways of God and the more we learn from the little snippets he drops into our laps, we would better understand how to react when there is a slight delay. Delay is never denial.
Bless you sis.
You have done it again! You’ve hit the nail on the head with this beautiful empowerment regarding standing strong in our God. In a nutshell, attaining God’s promises for our lives is not by our strength or will; it’s about God and His divine timing. Sometimes, we trust in people more than we trust in God….and we do allow circumstances to dissuade us regardless of our spiritual standing. Thanks, Bomi.
Tokunbo, yes, indeed! Looking unto Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith. And of course, going back to the word at every turn for re-fueling.
Love you all for sharing.
Hey Bomi, this is really great! It just reminds me of me. Lol. Since you asked for a comment, I’d just like to add this bit. I was watching one of my uncle – Creflo Dollar’s broadcast yesterday evening, and he said something about not wanting to be just a child of God, but a Son of God. Just like you said you remembered your 2 year old son,was just a child, so you shouldn’t expect too much from him… is the same way we are meant to grow up from being just 2 year old ‘children’ of God, and growing up into Sons, were we are extremely courageous, standing tall in faith, having constant fellowship with out Father and His Word, and in so doing would be ready to face those taunting demons of fear, doubt and unbelief, and challenges when they come. So instead of screaming “Mummiiieeee!!!” We take them head on with the Word and Prayer. And not just sitting there crying, “Daddy, ‘fear’ said that I would be laid off this month!!! Daddyyyyyy!!!!! And God’s like, “I love this my child. But does he want to be a 2 year old forever? I’m just waiting patiently for him to grow up!”
I think it’s about time we all grow up in the Lord, and do what He’s called us to do, and stop being 2 year olds! Because the night is far spent…
Bless you Bomi, and keep up the good work! x x x
@ Jonani – Thank you so much for your very kind words. I really look forward to that by God’s grace, amen… thanks a lot! And thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, I totally agree with you! Truly, it takes discipline, I know we will all keep working hard to discipline our selves and our minds in God. Thank you Jonani!
@A.Tokunbo – Thanks so much for sharing that! I love how you summarized it…so perfectly! It is about God and his divine timing, indeed! May we always put our trust in God, not people. May we always look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, like Hexy reminded us earlier. May we always fill ourselves with God’s perfect word. So help us God – Amen. Thank you very much!
@Toju – Thanks so much for taking the time to share that! That’s such a useful and practical depiction of our discussion. I laughed when I read the part about screaming “Mummieeee” or “Dadddddyy”!! vs taking it head on with God’s word and with prayer. I definitely agree with you. I pray that we will all play our parts, and with God’s help – not remain children/2yr olds forever, but mature on solid food as the Bible says. Thanks a lot Toju…Bless you too!!!
….this message is very timely indeed. Thank you for reaffirming what God has been whispering to me. Yes, I believe…God’s word never fails. He is faithful and keeps all his promises. PS: I know I owe you a call. I will make it up to you, I promise:) love always
Very encouraging words! Thanks for sharing your insights.
Thank you so much for sharing, Bomi! Wow! I have actually been meditating on God’s Faithfulness and steadfastness the last couple of weeks. This reminds me of the song ” Great is Thy faithfulness oh God my Father, there is no shadow of turning with you, all I have needed Thy hands have provided, great is Thy faithfulness Lord unto me”. May we never forget His Faithfulness in our lives. And may we always trust Him because He ALWAYS has everything under control.
Very nice… dont stop writing.
God Bless.
@Roxanne – That is so great to hear, glad this was a reaffirmation of what God has already placed in your heart. That’s wonderful! We will talk…don’t worry our little chats/discussions on Jolly Notes make it seem like we’ve talked recently:)! But I look fwd to speaking with you. Love you too!
@Anonymous – Thank you so much! I’m so glad to hear you found these words encouraging. I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment. Thank you!
@Ope – Thank you very much for reading! Amen!! That song is one of my favorites ever. It is such a beautiful and reassuring one. Great is his faithfulness, indeed! I am right with you – May we never forget his faithfulness in our lives, and may we always trust him 100%, even when we don’t completely understand what is going on. Thanks a lot Ope:)!!
@ Dafe – Thank you!!! That’s very encouraging, I won’t stop by God’s grace – please don’t stop reading! lol. Thank you Dafe. God bless you too!

I really needed to be reminded of His faithfulness today. Thanks for this post!
Very, very good. Let me let God’s word over my life guide me and my family.
Why do we easily forget?
Guess that’s why we are humans.
Just as we know, the lil boy is just two so he might not understand.
The same way, we are just humans and just don’t understand sometimes.
But when we get to understand, our confidence is boosted and becomes unshakable!
@Anahid – Thanks so much for taking the time to read and to comment. I am very glad to hear this was a timely message/reminder for you. Thank you!

Thanks so much Toun!! Really good to hear you found this useful. Happy new year to you too:)!!!
Thanks for this inspirational message, at times we really forget what God’s word says when we desperately have a need to be met in our lives. God bless you
Hello Bomi. Welldone

Good point Bomi. God is always faithful.
Keep up the good work. You are very talented.
great article, very informative
I’d love to share these verses revealed to me by the Lord when I was wrestling if He hears my prayers and is really with me, and upon reading these one morning in my devotions, I was hit home and almost cried for His knowing presence and love: “Then Haggai, the LORD’s messenger, gave this message of the LORD to the people: “I AM WITH YOU,” declares the LORD.” -Haggai 1:13…”Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit. “‘FROM THIS DAY ON I WILL BLESS YOU.” -Haggai 2:19. I felt lifted up and I praise God for His wonderful love for me when I was in a besieged city. Jesus loves you so much, so much! God bless you indeed Bomi!
@Steve – He truly is – always faithful!! He always is. Thank you very much for taking the time to read and share. Thank you for your very encouraging words. Have a very blessed day=)!!

Thank you very much Jacqueline! God bless you too=)!!!
What was I thinking all this while, not coming on to this site. This is just what I need in my life right now. May God continue 2 inspire u more.
in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time- This tells us that though we may fill as though he does lie- as because at times we feel it is taking to long for him to give us that eternal life he speaks of, it lets us know HE does NOT lie. Thanks for the inspriational message and may God help you and your kids and help you to see his way in everything.
“Love is always bestowed as a gift – freely, willingly and without expectation. We don’t love to be loved; we love to love.” ~ Leo Buscaglia
