Samosa Days & Giraffe Nights: A Thank Fest

I am thankful.

My home is currently extremely messy and is truly a shame to behold – we’ve all been pretty sick (each of us in varying degrees) this past week, and everything except the essential stuff has taken the back burner. I am thankful we have a home to live in – the mess can (and will) wait.

So the dishwasher now does a not-so-little dance and makes more noise than usual when it’s running a cycle. The boys found a way to mess with it – I won’t bore you with the details lol. But I am very thankful that it still works, and it still gets our dishes clean! And speaking of dishes, grateful we constantly have dishes to wash – means we have food to eat and the appetite to eat too.

Speaking of food – One thing that I am always thankful for is the fact that I am exposed to such a wide variety of people, cultures, personalities, foods! I am thankful for thanksgiving turkey, for goat meat, jollof rice, fried rice, dodo, shepherd’s pie, pizza, lasagna, efo & egusi, hot dogs, roast beef, pad thai, potato curry, chicken curry, my friend’s famous “African Tea” (so soothing!), hubby’s renowned fish soup, roti or naan, tandoori, collard greens, chilli, cheese cake, apple pie, sweet corn, samosas, and more (my mouth is watering lol)! So anyway.. one of my favorite meals is Jollof Rice. I introduced it to one of my friends – she and her nieces absolutely loved it! Only thing is, when we told her nieces what it was called, they mistook the “Jollof”  part for “Giraffe” lol. So for a long time, they called it “Giraffe Rice”.. lol. My friend in turn taught me how to make yummy Samosas. I am very thankful for Samosa Days & Giraffe Nights:)!

Thankful for everything about Thanksgiving! Including the fact that we don’t have snow yet this year:)! It feels like winter for probably 6 out of 12months where I live – so that’s a biggie for me! And thankful that we will survive another 6months of winter when it does come around…brrrr!!!

Thankful for the simple pleasures of life –  colors and music everywhere – butterflies, birds, flowers, sunshine, the swooshing sounds of the wind, water… Beautiful trees and their very pretty fall leaves in their array of colors, rainbows, laughter, eating honey bunches of oats cereal with added peanuts:), giant sloppy kisses, optimism…

Thankful for the boys’ oh-so-lovable little puppy… It is very much loved, very much played with, and never, not even once – have we had to discipline him, clean up after him indoors or outdoors, never had to train him to do anything. He’s always clean, always obedient, always healthy, and can always be trusted even around the tiniest of babies. We welcomed him home about 3yrs ago – A hand-me-down, manufactured by Playskool. lol. Also so very thankful for the boys’ sense of wonder  and constant excitement about something – it is always so heartwarming and enlightening.

Speaking of the boys – thankful that my 2yr old suddenly announced this morning that he no longer wants to wear his diaper! He’s been asking to use the potty for the last few days too. I am ecstatic! I hope the journey to being completely diaper free is a short one:)!

Thankful for the gift of life, a well functioning brain and the ability to think, books and the ability to read, the ability to write and just how therapeutic that always is, the ability to feel!!!… Thankful for hopes and dreams, for the beauty, vastness and wonder of love, for joy, forgiveness, second chances, reconciliation, healing, for uncountable reasons to rejoice- even in the times when things are not exactly how I want them to be. I am thankful that we can always find strength and hope in God.

Thankful for family and friends-like-family. Extremely thankful for the ones I live with, plus the many who live all over the world – anywhere from right next door to thousands of miles away… Thankful for how our local friends constantly make us feel like we have family locally, Grateful for how technology makes it so easy for us all – far and near- to keep in touch. Thankful that it often feels like we are right next to each other even when we’re so far apart. Thankful for old friends and new friends too. Thankful for every single person I’ve met or reconnected with in the last little while – online or otherwise. You’ve all become kinda like an extended family;), and I’ve learned, and I keep learning so much from you. Thanks for your friendship:)!

Thankful for who God is to me – My Source, Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, Best Friend, Shield, Protector, Deliverer, Guide, Healer, Teacher, Comforter, Defender, Provider, My Rock, My All. Thankful to God that the recent scare we had was just a scare – and hopeful that it will not amount to anything more than that.

Thankful for all of your kind and encouraging words, comments, emails recently and in the past too… reminds me of yesterday’s verse of the day… Your words are truly very sweet to the soul and healthy for the body (Prov 16:24) – Thank you:)! (See More Great Verses)

Thankful that you took the time to read my thank-fest:)! Thankful for all these and many more!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!:)! I hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving week – One filled with love, laughter, thankfulness and lots and lots of good food!!

So…what are you thankful for…..?:)? Please feel free to join me in the thank-fest!!

Much Love & Blessings,

Bomi Jolly

Wow! I feel like i’m the only one that’s never had samosa. Recipe Please. lol. I’ll take over ur blog if i list out all the things i’m thankful for, but i’ll just make it short and say i’m thankful for everything, anything and for all things. Life couldn’t be better for sure. I love Giraffe rice too, but it always seemed to burn so i gave up on it and enjoy dirty rice and fried rice instead. Don’t mind recipe for your giraffe rice too as long as it doesn’t end up burnt. lol. And speaking of puppies. I love the cute lil’ ones, hubby loves the big ones, no one wants to clean up after them, so i guess no puppies for now, but i like ur creative idea. I just might get one of those for my girls. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Hi Bomi, I am truly inspired by your site. Since my first read 2 days ago (I was a late joiner, I must confess), I have become addicted. I am thankful for my life, salvation, wonderful family, true, true friends, nice colleagues, for his protection (more needed than ever), faith (which waivers but stays somewhat strong), good health and all.

Please don’t remind me about food – meant to be on a diet – lol.

I ‘m also thankful for you – you always remind me how to see good around me.
